Hello! Because we get asked this question a lot we thought we would write up a blog post about it. The question is – “What are some strategies for successfully launching my new site?” Well, we are glad you asked because we have a few tips! Use some or all of these tips when launching your new site. There is no wrong or right way to get your site up and running. Also, it is so imporant to remember that just making your site live is the biggest, most complicated thing you can do when you are first starting out! So no need to stress yourself out with an elaborate launch plan if just getting your site up and running seems big and scary enough! It is and it is a huge accomplishment! Pat yourself on the back when you hit that publish button for the first time! And for those of you who are looking for a little more… here are some little things you can do to make a bigger splash on launch day!
Tip No. 1 – Save the Date
The first thing you need to do is set a date. Pick a date on which you are going to have your official site up and running and stick to it. Put it in the footer to your email signature. Create a simple splash page that says, “Coming Soon – DD/MM/YEAR”. Giving people a time frame to look for your site is an absolute must! Send out a “save the date” announcement on Instagram or via newsletter.
Tip No. 2 – Friends and Family
Get your friends and family on board! These are the people that already love and support you so let them do what they do best! Create visuals that are easy for people to share on social media and send a short but to the point email to all of your friends and family about how you are launching your site soon and would love their support. Ask them if they would be willing to share your announcement on social media and attach the visuals for them to easily upload to their preferred platform. Make something square for Instagram and something rectangular for Facebook and Twitter. The visual should be really simple.
Tip No. 3 – Giveaway
Connect with a few big name bloggers or experts in your field and ask if they would be interested in doing a giveaway with you. I would say try to coordinate 1 or 2 giveaways prior to launch. Determine what your goal is for each giveaway – the giveaway should either promote your email newsletter or your Instagram account. Both are great platforms to get news out quickly and efficiently about your new site and the products or services you offer. Your giveaway could be “a way to celebrate your new brand identity and upcoming website launch”. In order to enter the giveaway the person has to either sign up for your newsletter or follow you on Instagram.
Tip No. 4 – Tease People
Drop hints on social media that you have been working on something for a while now and you are really excited to show it off! Show a little here and a little there. People love to see behind the scenes sneak peeks so let them in on your creative process. Letting people get the back story helps them feel more connected to you at launch time and gives them more reason to celebrate along with you – because they KNOW how hard you have been working!
Tip No. 5 – Newsletter
Newsletters are huge! If possible add a newsletter sign up widget to your splash page so you can start collecting names on your list before you even go live. Offer something in exchange for newsletter sign up. People love freebies so give them something for “free” when they sign up for your newsletter. For example if your product is food related create a “recipe collection PDF” utilizing your product. If your site is more service based create a simple worksheet that will help people with a specific problem that you specialize in helping people with. Make this freebie a PDF that they will automatically receive as a welcome email when they sign up for your newsletter.
Last but not least – on the day of your launch send out your newsletter and announce on Instagram that your site is live and then bust out the champagne – because you deserve to celebrate!
